Choosing an eSIM for Kenya
A Kenya eSIM keeps you connected in Nairobi and the towns and lodges on the way to your safari, without swapping your physical SIM. Compare the current plans above by allowance, validity and network, and match them to the number of days you will actually be in range.
Networks and coverage
Current Kenya plans list 4G through Safaricom. Network generation and availability depend on the selected plan, device compatibility and local coverage.
How much data to choose
Available allowances include 1GB, 3GB, 5GB, 10GB, and 20GB. Plans labelled unlimited include a daily data allowance, and speed is reduced to about 1 Mbps after the daily limit. Options currently cover 1- to 30-day validity. Match validity to the complete trip, then choose data based on navigation, messaging, work and streaming needs.
A typical trip starts in Nairobi, continues to the Maasai Mara, Amboseli or Lake Nakuru by road or a light aircraft, and may finish on the coast at Mombasa or Diani. Signal is usually good in towns and weaker or absent inside parks and conservancies, so download maps, bookings and tickets in advance and treat game drives as offline time.
Local SIM or travel eSIM?
A local SIM can be useful for a long stay or if you need a Kenyan number for local services. For a typical safari holiday, an eSIM installed before you fly means you are online in Nairobi on arrival, while your own SIM stays free for calls and texts.
Kenya eSIM questions
A plan connects wherever its supported network has signal. Coverage inside national parks and conservancies is often limited or missing, so expect patchy signal on game drives and download what you need while you are in Nairobi or a larger town.
Current Kenya plans range from $3.49 to $221.94, depending on data allowance and validity. Compare the total data and number of days as well as price, because the cheapest plan may not cover the whole trip.
Plans labelled unlimited include a daily data allowance, and speed is reduced to about 1 Mbps after the daily limit. The plan label and the details on each plan card show which kind you are buying.
The validity period begins when the eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network in its coverage area. You can install it before departure and connect when you arrive.
Hotspot availability depends on the phone, selected plan and network policy. Top-up availability is checked for the specific eSIM after purchase; when compatible top-ups exist, Yatelo displays them in the eSIM account controls.
